Side Hustler: the magic of crystals

In her search to reconnect with herself and the world around her, Loren Bousfield ventured into a side hustle of crystals, essential oils and all in between.

Speaking to Twenty Something Humans, she tells us how she maintains the energy to keep on hustlin', shares advice for those curious about the world of spiritual wellness and tells us what crystals we should be looking to when we're in a particular mood.

What prompted you to start your own side hustle, Nuova Luna, and how do you manage this on top of the rest of your life?

It started because I needed something to feel connected to my Dad after he passed away. He had an appreciation for crystals, just like I do. My personal collection started to grow and one day I woke up and decided I needed to bring these magical beauties into people's lives.

I wanted to learn more about crystals, plant magic and what it meant to be connected to the earth.

How I manage the hustle? I just do. I wake up and all I want to think about is my business. I'm constantly researching and connecting with other like-minded people. I work full-time hours and take my laptop to work on Nuova Luna during lunch. Eventually, I want the side hustle to be my daily hustle. I figure if I work hard now, hopefully it will pay off.

...and what attracted you to the spiritual wellness area?

There is definitely a need in this day and age to find the connection to Mother Earth and awaken your inner-self, especially for women. We're such powerful beauties; we've been so emotionally and spiritually oppressed for so long. Surrounding myself with nature, crystals and wholesome things makes me feel better as a human.

Tell us about your favourite crystals.

This is such a flippin' hard question. It changes, because every day I am drawn to something different. In saying that, I can't walk past amethyst or moonstone at the moment. They are such powerful stones. I get frequent migraines and I use amethyst (with my EO) instead of painkillers; it also helps with my anxiety. Amethyst is SO powerful and a great all-rounder. Moonstone connects me with the moon and helps me align with its cycles.

What kind of advice would you offer to someone who was new to the spiritual wellness scene, what can they gain from it?

Be open-minded. Take everything as a learning experience. And most of all, enjoy it!
You’ll learn more about yourself and will probably appreciate everything around you so much more. You learn how to be accepting, how to express true gratitude and how to manifest and harness your energy.

What's one of the most interesting things you've learnt since immersing yourself in the wellness world?

The most interesting thing, hands down, is that it feels so natural to be connected to the earth. It feels like I was searching for something and I found it. I wasn't expecting that.

Tell us about some of the interesting stuff you've learnt about the moon.

Lady Luna is a powerful, divine, feminine beauty. She is connected to a woman's womb. The more you look at the moon, the more you feel like you understand her mysteries. The new moon is a birth. As the waxing phase journeys on, the moon grows and matures until it reaches its ripest point: the full moon. As the waning phase recedes our moon, turning it into a thin crescent and then dissolving it completely, that birth becomes a death. A great book to understand more about the lunar cycles is  'Lunar Abundance' by Dr Ezzie Spencer. A fantastic read; she’s brilliant.
