Tell us about More Plants.
More Plants is a Sydney based online plant store that delivers unique indoor plant babies across Australia!
What lead you to want to start your own business on the side of your regular 9-5 gig?
I decided to start More Plants about 7 months ago due to the lack of availability of indoor plants in Sydney. Every time I took a trip down to Melbourne the plant stores and nurseries were the highlight, they offered so many varieties of plants that just weren't available in Sydney. Long story short, I got fed up of having to travel to Melbourne to fin different looking indoor plants - so I decided to do something about it!
How do you find an effective balance between life and work?
So far I’ve found it quite hard to find the right balance between life and work. I always try and remind myself that work will always be waiting.…..but I don’t think I've got that balance right just yet. Luckily, I love spending time on More Plants, so it doesn’t feel like I'm working.
What’s your best advice for being a good plant parent?
Don’t kill your plants with too much love! I've been guilty of this so many times. Plants will generally tell you when they need something, giving them too much attention will often result in overwatering and killing them with kindness.

What’s your personal favourite indoor plant?
My favourite at the moment has got to be the Calathea Musaica. I’ve had my baby for about a year now and it has the most gorgeous foliage I’ve ever seen. It’s also quite easy to manage (especially for a Calathea).

What advice would you offer to someone who was thinking of starting up their own side hustle?
Just do it! I dwelled for months over whether to start More Plants and finally decided that it was worth a shot. If you're passionate about what you are doing, you'll find a way to make it work. I didn’t know a whole lot about starting a business in the beginning but you learn as you go. In saying that, don’t rush! If you aren't ready to open, wait until you are happy with every tiny detail of your side hustle.
What has been one of the biggest challenges that you’ve encountered and how did you overcome it?
I think one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced starting More Plants has been finding the right suppliers to work with. There are so many wholesale nurseries out there, it’s like looking for a needle in a haystack. Luckily, through a lot of ground work and emailing, I have found a number of business’ that have the stock I’m after and they've been great to work with!

Where do you hope to see More Plants in 12 months time?
In 12 months time I hope to see More Plants continuing to grow! Eventually, our ultimate goal is to open a store in Sydney, so I will be working with that in mind. However, my main goal over the next 12 months is to be able to find more rare beauties to share around Sydney - I love plants and I want them to be available!
More Plants can deliver to NSW, QLD, VIC, SA and ACT. Sydney based Plant Parents can also opt to pick up their own bbies.
