5 ways to fake being a morning person

Does the thought of waking up and actually being productive disgust you? We know, the struggle is real.

 

Keep reading if you’re looking to up your morning game... or even just fake it ‘till you make it. These tips should have you walking on sunshine at the butt crack of dawn, no worries.

 

 

 

Get snoozing.

 

And no, we don’t mean right after your alarm goes off at 6am. Knowing how much sleep your body needs is the key. The next step is making sure you’re in bed at a decent hour each night to meet that number. Kinda like a teenager with a curfew, right? Well this one should make the next morning a whole lot easier to manage.

 

Get caffeinated.

 

The answer to mornings is coffee. That’s it. Full stop.

 

The golden elixir of life. Unless it’s a bad coffee, which can pretty much ruin your day before it even had a chance...

 

But aside from that, coffee. That is all.

 

Get full.

 

So even though coffee is amazing, you’re probably gonna need a little more to help fuel your morning and combat Hangry Hannah until lunchtime. That’s why we suggest making time for a proper breakfast in the morning. Sugar and caffeine will leave you fatigued after the buzz wears off, but protein and low-GI carbs will keep you feeling fuller for longer. Oh, and does bacon count as protein? Totally an option. Three rashers, extra crispy, with love.

 

Get moving.

 

Cue the collective groan. This one’s done the rounds, we know. The reason for that is because it really does work. Most people who exercise early in the morning feel like they’ve already accomplished something, setting the tone for the rest of their day and increasing productivity levels. I mean, pumping through a workout first thing in the morning (and before your body figures out what the hell is going on) also means you’re less likely to skip it later, when you’ve lost motivation and you’re drained from a day’s work. I guess the endorphins wouldn’t hurt either. Sleep in your active wear if you have to, just get it done.

 

Get social.

 

You’re probably like, “Whaaaaaat? How can I be social if I’m still groggy and trying to avoid life?!” This is true, but what we mean is you should try a quick scroll through your favourite social media feeds. Instagram is usually overflowing with morning inspo of early yoga poses set against a rising sun and followed by a delicious, healthy breakfast (#cleaneating). Or maybe you prefer the sass-pot memes that tend to flood Facebook about coffee and mornings and the overall shittiness of it all. Either way, find your fav and embrace those feels knowing you’re not alone.

 

Get others involved.

 

Being responsible for waking up another person (say, your roommate or partner) is a pretty concrete excuse to make sure you’re awake yourself. Or simply having that first chat of the day with them can help get the ‘good mood’ ball rolling. (NOTE: avoid this step until caffeinated and in a stable condition).

 

Get crunk.


The goal is to greet the morning and others with a smile, right? So in order for that to happen, we need to ditch the resting bitch face. Find your favourite playlist and jam out while you’re having breakfast or getting ready. Just please don’t snapchat it for the sake of the people checking their social media as they wake up. No one needs to hear you butcher some 90s RnB that early in the morning.
