Newcastle based artists, Silje Soldal paints/sketches/illustrates/creates beautiful portraits with a twist. Like most artists, she started off with the odd doodle on a napkin or maths test and soon realised that she had a little bit of a crush on creating snazzy artworks.
In high school she started creating portraits because she found people's faces to be an easy point of reference and it all fell into place from there.
"I could always look at someones face and kind of tell if I was putting everything in the right spot, it wasn’t too technical! I really love using just graphite to draw with, I’m a sucker for tactility and I just enjoy the feeling of pen on paper so much."
Now as she studies visual communications and design at university, Silje is able to branch out into new mediums, such as digital drawing, which we can tell she is totally nailing.
